(MQM) is an organization dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and consulting services available in the fields of independent medical evaluation, utilization and quality assurance reviews as well as impartial peer reviews. MQM feels that by providing an impartial utilization and peer review we can assist clients and individuals in evaluating the most effective medical treatments available. Experience demonstrates that returning to the workplace as quickly and as safely as possible is most beneficial to all parties involved. Studies have indicated that individuals gainfully employed lead longer, happier lives, and suffer fewer health problems. Employers benefit from improved human resource utilization and reduced insurance costs. Insurance companies experience considerable cost savings as well as improved client relations.
In order to meet this objective, MQM employs a professional staff including physicians from a variety of specialties. MQM physicians have their own clinical practice and provide patient services to area hospitals. Moreover, they attend and deliver continuing education programs in the constantly evolving medical field. This well-rounded background allows our physicians to provide state-of-the-art medical evaluation.
To supplement the MQM provider staff, MQM calls upon a support staff of professionals in the medical field, including registered nurses, vocational rehabilitation counselors, clinical neuropsychologists, and medical technologists. Additionally, MQM retains a staff of researchers, administrators and clerical workers to ensure the dissemination of medical information and the smooth operation of evaluation and review procedures.
Statement of Purpose and Objectives
Purpose:
The purpose of Medical Quality Management, Inc., is to deliver state-of-the-art medical examinations and utilization reviews conveniently and effectively. MQM distinguishes itself from parallel operations by our physician's commitment to providing quality IME's and services that may extend beyond the routine evaluation. MQM also employs a 24 hour report turn-around time that will assist you in maintaining your own cost-sensitive time schedule, who offer examinations and reviews of superior quality.
MQM services are locally available in the Capital Region (D.C., MD & VA), across the United States, Canada, and in Europe. Our main focus is to define and service the medical needs of the corporate community. MQM strives to establish a unified comprehensive program designed to return every patient to appropriate, and gainful employment.
Objectives:
MQM provides independent medical evaluations and quality assurance services to insurance companies, attorneys and other corporate organizations. All operations will be made in the most economically efficient and financially responsible manner. All efforts will be made to shorten the length of time an injured patient is without gainful employment, and to provide truly independent opinions regarding medical issues.
Recognizing the Need for Independent Medical Evaluation
As the length of time an individual remains on disability increases, so does the likelihood he or she will never return to work. Therefore, it is in the best interest of claims adjusters, attorneys, and rehabilitative specialist to refer individuals for independent medical evaluation as soon as it is appropriate.
The following situations may indicate the need for an independent medical evaluation:
- The attending physician finds total disability for more than eight weeks.
- The patient remains out of work following an injury for more than six months without a reasonable explanation
- A physician informs the patient that he or she is able to return to work, but the patient fails to do so or returns only to part-time status.
- There is a suspicion of industrial or occupational causation.
- The treatment program is rendered more than three weeks following the initiating event (e.g., an accident).
- Any special diagnostic studies are requested, including thermography, EMG, nerve conduction evaluation or multiple magnetic resonance imaging studies.
- The attending physician is treating beyond the realm of his or her specialty.
- The patient is seeing multiple physicians or so-called doctor shopping.
- Treatment is prolonged for extended periods of time, generally greater than eight weeks, for both physicians and other professional medical providers (e.g., chiropractor, physical therapist).
- Situation that include a diagnosis of:
- closed head injury, with suggestion of further evaluation and cognitive rehabilitation or there is a diagnosis of diffuse axonal injury, without objective evidence;
- myofacial syndrome is diagnosed without objective evidence;
- Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ) is diagnosed and further treatment or surgery is recommended.
